After successfully launching bazaars for Eastern Europe and Africa, NATPE and DISCOP (Intl. Discounted Television Program) are rolling out a version for the Middle East. Set to run March 14-16, 2011, in Istanbul, the distribution, programming and production program expects to draw 200-250 content buyers representing the region's stations and other buyers. The mini market will include networking and pitching opportunities.DISCOP g.m. Patrick Jucaud said, "With the launch of DISCOP Middle East, we are now in a position to deliver content licensing opportunities in several geographical zones that are becoming increasingly important for clients affected by the downturn in more developed markets. Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Sub-Saharan and North Africa, and the Middle East are regions that are benefiting most from the continued expansion of widespread, low-cost digital technology, the mobile revolution and fast-growing broadband penetration."
NATPE prexy-CEO Rick Feldman said, "Patrick and I feel that Istanbul is a logical location to launch a content market to effectively serve Africa and the Middle East. Geographically ideal, it represents a major media hub of a developing region that is poised to grow dramatically."
Launched in 1991, DISCOP East is a three-day event in Budapest. The third edition of the African bazaar runs Feb. 24-26 in Dakar, Senegal.
